1. Command line search — Architecture styles
AutoCAD 2014 has added more features to the Command Line search, and AutoCAD Architecture 2014 has extended this to allow faster and easier access to all architecture styles in a drawing.
To customize the search features on the left of the Command Line select the wrench icon and choose Input Search Options. In the Input Search Options dialogue box select Architecture. Once this is checked, type in any part of styling on the Command Line, this place list of all the styles that contain that word.
Selecting the Style name in the Command Line starts the Add command, enabling you to add existing styles to your drawing more quickly.
TIP: Pick a command three times to make it the default option.
2. Window & Door justification enhancement
While adding a window you can now also set the offset and the justification for the window. Note the Offset and Center is available as a single option now.
Select the Justification from the properties palette and then select the position along the wall. And notice how the window is positioned to the Center of the wall, and is placed with Center Justification.
If you select Right Justification and insert a window, it is positioned in the Center but is inserted with the Right Justification. These settings are also available for inserting Doors.
Vision Tools Tab
AutoCAD Architecture 2014 introduces four new commands which you will find very useful.
Earlier there was a Tab, called Roombook, on the Ribbon in AutoCAD 2013. Now it is renamed to Vision tools but it contains Rombook panel, as well, and it has been enhanced by many new features.
3. Display By Layer
One of these new features is the Display By Layer on Vision Tools tab.
Display By Layer allows you to set the order in which objects on layers are displayed on drawing.
Use the arrows to set the orders of the layers. Click Preview In Drawing to view your changes.
4. Escarpment block
The Escarpment block can be found on this same tab.
Escarpment creates linework to display differences in elevations in a 2D drawing. This Tool creates an AutoCAD block.
To modify the block, just select the linework and from the shortcut menu select Edit Block in-place. After that you can make the changes and save the block.
Use the new escarpment block to quickly generate graphics to represent slope changes, eliminating the need to create these complex graphics manually.
5. Set to layer (0) zero
This tool is also on the Vision Tools tab. Change the layer of all drawing entities to layer zeros in a single click. Clean up drawings with objects on unused layers by moving them to layer zero.
Have you ever move the block to another layer and wonder why that block color does not change to the ByLayer Color? If you move blocks to another layer and you expect the layer color to change but some of the blocks are remaining the same color. That happens when the block is created on a layer other than layer 0 (zero). To fix such blocks use To Layer 0 tool.
Select anyone instance of the block, press ENTER and all instances of that block in the drawing change to the color of the selected layer. After that you move the blocks to another layer it correctly inherits the color of the layer.
6. Change Block
The last new tool on this tab is Change Block.
As your design changes, you can make changes to your components more easily. Assign block instances a different definition without recreating the block.
Change Block allows you to replace one or more instances of a block with another. Click Change Block, select the blocks you want to replace and in the Command Line enter the name of the new block. Press ENTER and the blocks are changed.
7. Property Set Definitions
Automatically attach Property set definitions to architectural objects, so you can complete quantity takeoff calculations more easily.
You can now attach existing property set definitions to newly created objects and their styles, and easily attach new or modified property set definitions to existing objects.
Have you ever had schedule tables full of question marks? Have you exported drawings to DWF only to discover the expected properties are not present?
To fix the problem you have to individual attach the property set definitions to each object. This can be very time consuming especially in large projects.
With the automatic attachment of property set definitions you will not face this problem anymore.
In the Options dialogue navigate to the AEC Object Settings tab and select Automatically Attach.
This setting is stored in the drawing. After that you can see the Property Set Definition is attached all relevant objects in the drawing, existing and new, and updating the table now shows all the values.
TIP: Alternatively, you can set automatically attach property set definition data to objects on the command line by entering AECPSDAUTOATTACH.
8. Project information file backup
Information file backup in AutoCAD Architecture 2014 eliminates the time-consuming chore of rebuilding a project file that has been corrupted.
This feature provides a back-up copy of the up-to-date Project Information file (*.apj), which can be restored if the main copy is corrupted.
9. Annotation and unit scaling
Change drawing units and object tags, text, and other annotation scaled objects keep the same relative appearance and size.
In addition, many AutoCAD settings, such as linetype scale, are now properly modified when units are changed.
